What can I say about 2007? It was a year of horrible weather, that's for sure, and you'll notice a gap in the early summer when I stopped doing work reports for a while.... mainly because I ran out of space on my server. Thanks to Doug, I now have space on his server to store the old reports, and I'm trying to take slightly fewer pictures from now on. However, a picture is indeed worth a thousand words when trying to convey some of the strange things that we have to do.
This year we had more corporate funding: it was entirely due to a grant from a local power company that we were able to buy new post and rails for fencing off the stretch of towpath adjoining the old cemetery at West Challow. We felt this was a good use of the money, as although the residents were unlikely to complain, it was very much in line with our policy of co-operation with locals to ensure that this sensitive area was well fenced and attractively landscaped. We planted several dozen trees on the towpath side of the new fence, which will make a solid and attractive barrier by the time there are boats cruising along the waterway.
Other points to note in 2007: we had an increase in the number of members coming along to work parties, and we also gained some local publicity by having an article appear in a new local magazine, "Community Times in the Vale", which came out in the December issue. Let's hope that the article generates some more interest for us, in the new year.
As always, the list on the left is the record of various days of work,in reverse date order, ie most recent at the top.
If you think this looks like fun (it is) and a bit like hard work (it can be, but we go very much at our own pace!) then why not come along and have a go. No obligation! If you like it, you can join us and do it regularly, or as irregularly as you like. We officially go out every second and fourth Saturday, and there are additional Monday Extras for the retired folks who are either gluttons for punishment, or have realised that there's nothing like fresh air and exercise to keep you young. If you're not quite sure, feel free to drop me an e-mail with any questions.
