| Well, spring is finally very nearly just about sprung, and we continue to work our way along from the West Challow footbridge back up to the road. Today we are moving along to the section adjacent to the cemetary, where we are clearing the bank ready for re-profiling, a new fence, and a new laurel hedge.
Here's Jim and Vic gathering twigs to start the bonfire:
And here's Bob with a nice dry one:
Meanwhile Roy, despite having a bad cold, gets his trusty chainsaw out to tidy up the towpath: "Hang on, where's that bit gone?"
"Ah Alistair, well done, you found it."
Minutes later, the first bonfire of the day is well under way, with Bob, Phil, Jim and Malcy all keeping an eye on it.
|
Meanwhile, what on earth is Vic up to? Cries of "It's over your wellies!" are met with "No - my knees are wet but I'm dry inside." Glad to hear it......
Here we are on the cemetary stretch: years of debris get cleared down the slope into the ever-welcoming (second) bonfire heap.
Jim seems to be checking his watch to see how quickly Roy can get through the trunk:
While the rest of us continue forking merrily away.... actually, Roy was clearing the ivy from the tree trunk in preparation. See next panel!

Whee! Down she comes!
This is what sort of untidy mess a tree is when it first falls over:
And this shows how neat a chainsaw can make it!
Roy makes nice neat slices from the trunk.....
...but oh dear, there seems to be something wrong with this tree??
|
Bob and Jim are relaxing on the temporary pile of stools - what are they laughing at?
Ah, here is James Doing It Slowly....
...while Roy Does It Quickly!
|
This is James showing us how to cut a branch the WRG Way! (disclaimer: if this joke causes any offence to any WRG members, then take it up with James, it was his idea!!)
|
Now we move on to the other trunk: this one needs to go in a different direction, so Chinnor John is set to work with a rope and a piece of wood. To everyone's amazement, he gets it over the right branch second time!
